Paid Content - which articles are suitable
(March 2010) In the course of its introduction of a paid content model, the Austrian business news portal WirtschaftsBlatt has asked Meetrics to examine, the reading behaviour on its web site in order to identify article categories which are likely to work as paid content. By measuring the extent to which articles are read, Meetrics found that it were often not the most popular articles (in terms of page impressions) which were subject to the highest amount of reader attention. To the contrary, articles that were only relevant to a small group (e.g. local business news that cover a certain sector of the economy) were found to be the articles with the highest reading intensity. Since these articles are very relevant to their readers, the respective visitors are more likely to show a corresponding willingness-to-pay for them.
Meetrics method used in study about the correlation between ad viewtime and ad recognition
(September 2009) On behalf of the German Publisher Association (VDZ) Meetrics has, in cooperation with its partners eye square, d.core and panelbiz, analyzed the reading behaviour as well as the view time on a set of websites. The results of the panel study have shown a significant correlation between the time that a user is exposed to an ad and the measured ad recognition. However, there were large differences in the average reading intensity and the measured ad viewtime between news web sites and, for instance, email web sites.
The findings were presented at the Digital Marketing Exposition (DMEXCO) in Cologne and are also available on the VDZ website: q.e.d. – Qualität – Effizienz – Display
